Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Il Bruciato 2012 D.O.C. Red Wine, $22.99-$26.99, 91 points, poured core black trending nearly blood red near the broad clear wine ring and leggy glass wall.
Lovely sea breezes on the nose complimented mulberry, cedar, and hints of lilac aromas.
Near full-bodied with good acidity and layered, grainy, and escalating tannins managed well the flavors of black cherry, mulberry, blackberry cordial, plum, and savory notes.
Finished long on tobacco, oak, a well integrated 14% alcohol, and warm spices.Varietals were 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 15% Syrah.
Last year I tasted the 2011 vintage which I found wonderful, and as it happened I was talking to this disappointed wine shopper looking and not finding her favorite Italian red wine, so, as is my want, I recommended this one, and bought a bottle myself; I hope she enjoyed hers as much as I enjoyed mine.
