Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley 2012 Chardonnay, $15.99-$17.99, 89 points, poured a dark brass color.
Aromas of honeysuckle, hints of vanilla, and toasty melon notes were quite good.
Medium bodied with fair acidity and flavors reminiscent of most Cali Chardonnay wines, but managed to avoid the typically overdone, overbearing oak flavors while manifesting its pedigree with a modicum of restraint.
Finished well on apple and melon notes, a balanced 14.5% alcohol, and just a hint of white pepper.
Paired great with my mashed red-skinned potatoes, gravy, and bacon goulash, not to mention the puff pastry dessert.
