Michele Chiarlo Anniversario 2009 Barbaresco, $27.99-$42.99, 92 points, poured a beautiful sunburst red with a very broad clear wine ring.
Aromas were light, complex, and fragrant with sandalwood, roses, cinnamon, and sea breezes impressing.
Medium-bodied with bright acidity and firm fine tannins delivered an anathematically opposing wine style to the jammy, heavy, or syrupy dominated American red wine taste preferences (I like 'good' wines in many styles); this Barbaresco was an uncomplicated, but delicious treat of dry red cherries, black tea, and just a whisper of caramel flavors which culminated in the long finish of warm spices, a hint of spearmint, and a well-integrated 14% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my tagliatelle with beef in marinara sauce.
