Truchard Carneros Napa Valley 2012 Zinfandel

Truchard Carneros Napa Valley 2012 Zinfandel, $12.74-$27.9988 points, poured the darkest of raspberry reds with a clear wine ring and a heavily sheeted glass bowl.
The nose needed some teasing, but swishing brought-out an excellent bouquet of smoky plum, cinnamon, clove, cedar, and a floral vibe.
Medium-bodied with good acidity and fine grainy tannins managed mostly good flavors of blackberry brandy, chocolate, wild black fruits, and licorice.
Finished well on the trailing palate, a tad green, easy spices, more plums, and a restrained 14.2% alcohol.
Paired nicely with my buffalo-wings.

  1. I generally like Truchard's wines. Why the low score?

    1. VG: 88 points isn't a bad score, but it's not the 91 points I gave the Truchard 2011, and certainly not the 87 points for the 2010 vintage, but that aside CT had seven scores averaging 88.7 points.
You would have to go all the way back to June 19th to find a Zin I liked better; so, the Truchard was as good or better than the last six Zins I reviewed.
My main issue was a 'tad green' quality.

  2. Well, Zin is a difficult grape to farm.
