Hedges Family Estate Red Mountain 2012 Syrah (Washington), $22.99-$29.99, 87 points, poured broadly black showing faint purple/reds toward the clear wine ring and heavily draped glass.
Aromas of geraniums (considered a fault) and violets were dominant.
This medium-bodied Syrah with fair acidity and soft tannins was dry and translated into an easy drinking quaffer of a red wine.
Flavors were floral and herbal while showing bitter coffee, fig, and olives notes.
Finished long on the trailing palate and a well-balanced 14% alcohol.
Paired fine with our pepperoni pizza.
