Scaggs 2012 Montage also exhibited a complex aroma profile with plum, black olives, cedar, and clove representing just the tip of the iceberg.
Full-bodied with good acidity and tightly layered supportive tannins.
Flavors were robust, complex, and quite good, with cardamom, plum, black cherry, chocolate, mint, tart pomegranate, and blackberries not to mention the kitchen sink.
Finished on the trailing palate, escalating tannin, licorice, and a well integrated 14.5% alcohol.
Varietals were Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise.
