Groth Oakville-Napa Valley 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, $50.99-$69.99, 93 points, poured an opaque purple/red grading brighter toward the penumbra, clear meniscus, and moderately draped glass bowl.
Wafting aroma of black currants was nuanced with blackberry, sandalwood, and cedar.
The very smooth full body was supported by an underlayment of fine tannins and good acidity.
Excellent flavors of black cherry liqueur, cola, coffee, and licorice lead deep into the long finish marked by plum, truffle, easy pepper spices, and an appropriate 14.9% alcohol.
Varietals were 80% Cabernet and 20% Merlot.
Paired perfectly with my barbecued baby-back ribs.
2013 California Cabernet Sauvignon wines tasted
Groth Vineyards, why it's a "go to" winery.
