Grgich Hills Estate Napa Valley 2011 Chardonnay, $40.69-$49.99 (NHLS gift card applied), 93 points, appeared as a burnished brass color with a bronze tint.
Apples, cantaloupe, tomato juice, and flowers on the nose were good.
Medium to almost medium-plus bodied, soft, though crisp, yet substantial, clean, complex and bright, no over-the-top caramel, vanilla, butter, or alcohol here (13.5%).
Those that know me know that I prefer Sauvignon Blanc over Chardonnay, but if more Chardonnays tasted this good that could change; the queen of white wines just might take back her throne.
There is a touch of vanilla, but just a touch, and there's apple, peach, wet stone, a floral component, and mystery melon.
Finished long on the trailing palate with just a touch of ginger and vanilla.

Hmmm...tomato not generally a positive description for any wine. Will have to get Vinomaker to try this one.
ReplyDeleteVG: Usually I don't like tomato juice either, but I couldn't decide what else I was sensing, and since it was rather faint, I ended up with a: "were good" rather than the Groth's SB's "quite good". That's all I've got! Still the gestalt on this Chardonnay was very excellent!
