Raiza Rioja 2007 Tempranillo Reserva, $13.50-$18.00, 90+ points, displayed colors of pomegranate and bright ruby with a transparent rim at the leggy glass wall. Blackberry, clove, sea air, and leather were pleasant on the nose. Medium bodied with mouth-watering acidity and accelerating tannin that enhanced the subtle black cherry and plum flavors. Finished long on cola, hints of eucalyptus, warm alcohol (14%), and spice notes.
I bought this exceptional red wine at the Londonderry Hannaford's Super Market.

I will put this on my list to try. My wine rack needs some wine.
ReplyDeleteMarie: I stopped by Hannaford's this morning and they are out of this wine, and I checked with the NHLS and they don't carry this wine, but I'll be on the look-out to let you know.
DeleteUnusual that they would put the grape variety on the label. You'd think that Rioja would be sufficient.
ReplyDeleteVG: I think I know what you mean, but this wine I reviewed is labeled this way: Rio Madre Rioja 2011 Graciano, so as majestic wines from the UK would say: "Rioja produces Spain's flagship red wines, mainly from Tempranillo and Garnacha."
