Sauvignon Blanc 2017 (Cali)

Sauvignon Blanc 2017 (Cali)

Sauvignon Blanc white wines vintage 2017 (Cali) are slowly arriving in New Hampshire, and as they do I will once again try and pick them up for my inevitable enjoyment (one of my favorite white wines) and JMO reviews.
Just because SB is a common/hackneyed varietal doesn't mean they can't be outstandingly great wines, versatile, delicious, and mostly reasonably priced.
SB is a go-to white wine for me and many others; pair with fruit, fruity desserts, nuts, fish (I prefer white fish), oysters, lobsters, light poultry, and where Pinot Gris (Grigio) shines, so can Sauvignon Blanc; and why do I say such a thing, because as you discover SB from New Zealand, France, California (the subject of this post), the Northwest, South Africa, Italy, Chile, and even Spain all show SB in different ways: the mother of Cabernet Sauvignon travels well and adapts well.

  1. We did a comparative tasting of 2017 SBs at TWWIAGE the other day and the Duckhorn was one of wines included. Came just in the middle of the pack for me, a tad over-fruity.

    1. Fortunate you!
Upon opening the 2017 Duckhorn, I would have agreed with the "middle of the pack" assessment, but after a few hours the great subtleties blossomed into a beautiful gestalt. Guava and mango could easily offset a typical Cali SB expectation. Not saying that was your experience, but I could understand that.
