Gianfranco Alessandria 2011 Barbera d' Alba,
$14.53-$20.99, 88 points, appeared as a dense ruby and tapers toward the clear glass wall with an almost unfiltered purple/red color.
The nose was toasty blackberries with the slightest petrol note.
Medium bodied with good acidity and edgy though mild to moderate tannin made for an excellent red table-wine; to reiterate the Italian adage: "Chi ha pane e vino, sta meglio del suo vicino (Bread and wine are better. . .)."
The flavor profile reflects the nose with a hint of plum.
Finished fair on spice and a climatic heat (15% alcohol).
