Dos Minas 2016 Tannat (Argentina), $10.19-$11.99, 89 points, poured a deep ruby red with a broad clear rim and thick heavy legs.
Aromatic smoky red and black fruits smelled sweet, savory, and herbal.
Near full-bodied (dry) with good acidity and stern, but not too tough, tannins carried flavors reflective of the aromas plus mulberry and mushrooms.
Finished long on red pepper spice, tobacco notes, red fruit, and a potent 14.5% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my beefy Mexican cuisine.
An edgy great value red table wine for the not-so-faint of heart; I loved it.

"Not-so-faint of heart." Ha! Every Tannat I have ever had has been a tannic monster.
ReplyDeleteVG: Considering that I used to seep two or three teabags of black tea before drinking, I must just like tannin!
