Pine Ridge 2013 Chenin Blanc + Viognier,
$11.99-$14.99, 90 points, was a deep coppery-gold color.
Smells of tangerine, dried hay, and caramel with a hint of petrol were interestingly complex.
Light-plus body with good acidity managed to deliver the bouquet onto the palate with aplomb.
Finished grapy, juicy, and nuanced with soft ginger notes and a comfortable 12.5% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my North Atlantic sea scallops.
I was surprised that this wine seemingly improved with a few years in the bottle.

A 2013? Had you been purposely aging this wine?
ReplyDeleteJust read an article on older California SBs...interesting.
VG: OLD SB! and me only looking for 2017s! What was it?
DeleteI just didn't get around to this Pine Ridge.
I'll see if I can find the SB article online and email it to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou have inspired me, because I have several 'old' bottles of SB.
Interesting that he had a Tangent, which was a Vineyard you ostensibly liked.
Also he mentioned Kenwood, a vineyard which has supplied me with many fine red wines, but I was never impressed with their white wines.
